Depending on where you are within the world of cosmetics and beauty products, you likely lie somewhere on the spectrum ranging between ‘What’s setting spray?’ and ‘Yes way setting spray!’
A few years ago, I had no idea what setting spray was nor why I should use it.
Basically, once you have applied all your makeup, you spray your face with setting spray to make sure your makeup lasts all day. I know it might seem bizarre that spraying a liquid on your face will keep your makeup in place all day, but it really does work.
For people living in hot and humid places, like myself, or who are prone to being oily, also like myself, setting spray is a real game changer.
I’ve tried many types of setting spray and have never been disappointed. My favorite spray of all is the Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day Setting Spray in the scent Green Tea & Ginger. It smells incredible, is gentle on my skin, and keeps my makeup in place all day or night no matter what.
Tips for using…
- If you aren’t used to misting or spraying products onto your face, you might need to practice getting used to what it feels like. Some people are more sensitive than others and might hate the feeling of a fine spray on their face. Personally, I find it refreshing, but if the spray is too intense or the product is quite cold it can be unpleasant. The Slay All Day spray nozzle allows the product to disperse finely and over a large amount of space.
- A word of caution: Be careful with your mascara! If your mascara is still wet when you apply a setting spray, it will likely smear or spread on your face! To avoid this happening, I always apply setting spray before my mascara. Mascara is always the last product I apply to my face, so the setting spray locks everything in place. I’ve had setting sprays cause the mascara on my lower lashes to transfer so for that reason, my advice would be to save your mascara application for last. If you are someone who applies mascara early in your makeup routine, just give yourself at least 5 minutes and look upwards when you spray your face to avoid any pigment transfer.
- Setting spray is great to use with cream, liquid, and powder products. It works well with everything!
