Oil is usually one of the things most people tend to avoid in their skin care. Oil is not the enemy. Oils contain vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin E that richly hydrate skin and lock in moisture. If you’re skin is dry, adding an oil is an essential way to rescue dehydrated skin. If you have normal and even oily skin, your skin still needs hydration, especially during winter or after washing your face. Adding oils like marula, argan, and rose hip oil to your face provides amazing hydration that leaves the skin looking hydrated and lit from within. I recommend adding one drop to your facial moisturizer until you find the perfect blend for your face.
For body moisturizing, I add a few drops of amaranth or rose hip oil to my moisturizer. I use the TJ Maxx brand Measurable Differences Amaranth and Rose Hip body oils ( $7.99 for 4 oz or $1.99 per oz). I add a few drops of body oil to my body butters. One of my favorite body moisturizers is the Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter ($35 for 8 oz, or $4.37 per oz). This body butter comes in different scents (my favorite is vanilla apricot) but it also comes in an unscented option which I love wearing to work. Besides being hospital appropriate, unscented lotions are great for adding scented oils to without risking mixing various fragrances that might not combine together well.
For those of you looking for a drug store body butter recommendation, I swear by the Tree Hut Shea Moisturizing Body Lotion. This line of products is cruelty free, affordable, and super effective. It even helps clear up my mild patches of eczema during the winter season.
Have you tried adding hydrating oils into your skin care regimen? What are your thoughts?
